Auto J/E was designed to automate the entry of journal entries into accounting systems, which don’t support, or where the client doesn’t provide, the ability to upload journals.
The app was built with consistency in mind. The journal is created in a standardized Excel template, which itself can be driven by formulas or fed from other workpapers. Auto J/E is given a “map” of the accounting systems journal entry layout. It then reads the entry into memory and simulates the entry reliving the accountant of the tediousness and sometimes sluggishness of having to key their entry manually.
The tool promotes consistency in monthly entry, reduces entry error, and allows the accountant to create more meaningful verbose entries while not having to factor in the additional entry time. In a team setting, one person could be tasked with uploading for the group allowing the other members to continue work on their close.
In practice this utility reduced a process that took hours to a few minutes, in my own use, I reduced turn time on a close by nearly two days. It is easily adaptable to work with any accounting system. Written in Python 3. (Blur added to remove client names)
